Jake Cullen

Name: Jake Cullen

Age: 26

Location: Vancouver, BC

Bike: BMC Twostroke 01. SRAM GX AXS with a 34t front, 10-52t rear. Shimano XT Brakes, with 180mm rotors. WeAreOne Sector Rims hand laid in Kamloops, with SP Dynamo hub up front and an I9 1-1 hub in the rear, hand-built in Vancouver by Randognar. Tires are Pirelli Scorpion XC H 29 x 2.2 with Tannus Tubeless Inserts.

Key items of kit: Apidura Backcountry Long Top Tube Pack, which houses my batteries and electronics, as well as my arm warmers, leg warmers and gloves. Apidura Backcountry 1l Frame Pack full of extra food and my pump and multitool. Apdidura Expedition Downtube bag full of spare parts, and more specific tools that I hope to not need but would never leave home without. Apidura Expedition 9L Saddle Bag has my sleep kit (SOL Emergency Bivvy, and an MEC Vectair UL pad), as well as a pair of wool socks, my Albion Zoa insulated jacket, my Albion Zoa rain jacket, and my 7mesh Thunderpants. I also have two Bivo Duos (black cap for drink mix or coke, red cap for water), and a Camelbak Chase Vest filled with water and more food. For light I have Sinewave Beacon and a B+M rear dynamo powered light, along with a Fenix HM-65R Headlamp.

Bike: I'm riding a 2021 Salsa Cutthroat. I got this prior to last year's Tour Divide (TD) This started as a stock set-up, but I put on a Hunt wheelset (with Mezcal tires) with a dynamo hub prior to last year's TD. During the TD, I was forced to changed it to a 1x and I'm never going back. Since then, I've switched the stem and seatpost to Redshift for the little bit of cush for my aching back. I highly recommend checking them out. This bike is commonly seen at these type of events and there is a reason for that as it is a fantastically comfortable ride.

Key items of kit: I have been a fan of the Revelate bags since prior to them getting threatened with a lawsuit by the big S over their name. They make bomb proof bags, as do most of the bag makers out there these days, including Rogue Panda who I believe makes the best fit frame bag for the Cutthroat. I've been impressed with the K-Lite front and rear. Besides all the gear, I want to shout out my family for their support. I hope my daughters are as lucky as I am to find someone that lets them chase their dreams like I did.

Bike: Winspace G2, with GRX Di2 1x running a 38 tooth front ring and 11-46 cassette. Wheels are a Winspace Grapid in the rear, and SON28 front hub laced to a light bicycles front rim.

Key items of kit: Rear bag and TT bar bag are both Apidura, and custom homemade frame bag with two main compartments and one slim pocket for all my electronics. I have a Sinewave charger to keep my devices topped up as well. I'm using 3 1L bottles (one on each fork leg and one in the frame) along with a 1L BeFree water bladder/filter. For lights I have an SON Edelux dynamo front and rear light, with an additional Lezyne 1600XXL front light for any fast descents. My sleep system is all in my saddlebag, with an outdoor research bivy sack, sleeping bag, and sleeping mat all rolled up together to make setup super quick.
