Bikes of Three Peaks Bike Race 2022
5 July, 2022
A free-route race that summits three of Europe's most formidable mountains and all those in between before featuring Mt Ventoux as the gateway to the final parcours and finish in Nice, France. This is certainly a race for the grimpeurs.
Riders have made their own decisions on the fine balance between being equipped for the unpredictable Austrian, Italian, Swiss and French Alps whilst also keeping weight down.
Have a scroll to see each rider's chosen whip and the accompanying kit they've chosen.

Bike: This is a T-Lab X3, a custom-made titanium frame made by a great team in Montreal with Boyd Jocassee gravel wheels and Rene Herse Bon Jon Pass in 35mm. There is a SON 28 dynamo hub in front, powering Sinewave Cycles Beacon and Supernova E3 Taillight. Groupset is Sram Force AXS (Rival AXS for the 160mm crank) in 10-36 & 33-46 in front. The frame and food pouch bags are from Copra Bikepacking and are custom-made for the bike in Paris. Saddle and top tube bags are from Apidura.
This is a lighter setup than what I am used to, but the idea is to suffer the least as possible in the climbs and be able to not lose time re-packing.
Key items of kit: The packable backpack! A great way to stuff food when needed and can be put away easily. And a dry bag to keep my camera safe from any storms.

Martin Bloch
Name: Martin Bloch
Age: 28
Cap number: 177
Location: Berlin, Germany
Bike: My road bike is a handmade, custom built steel frame from Cycles Manivelle (in Strasbourg). It is equipped with a Shimano Ultegra 50/34 - 11-34 to try to climb those Three (and more) Peaks without hurting my knees too much. I'll ride on Hunt Superdura dynamo wheels that'll power my front and rear lights; this is one less thing to care about during the race. The front light is a Busch und Müller IQX, and is powerful enough to ride through the night. The wheels are mounted with 28 mm Hutchinson tires (with tubes).
Key items of kit: The top tube bag is from Apidura and is fairly common in those types of events I think, so I won't go into details. It'll contain small objects like sunscreen, my credit card or the powerbank.
The frame bag is from Helmut Equipments which is, contrary to what you would think when reading the name, located in the French Alps. I'll store the sleeping gear and the "bathroom" stuff in there.
I'll also use as aerobar bag in which I'll keep the stuff I want to have easy access to when I'm on the bike, such as the wind jacket or the leg warmers. I might also use the upper side of that bag to store snacks!
Last but not least, I'll use a custom built rear rack (which was also built by Cycles Manivelle!). It will carry a 7L dry bag with all the stuff I'll use less often like the down jacket or maybe some spare bib shorts. The rack weighs almost nothing and will prevent the bag from swinging during the climbs.
I'll also carry 2 bottles and might use the 3rd one underneath the frame to store some multitool/spare tube kind of thing.
