# Dia 5
ISIDORA SOLARI: Felicitaciones a Isi quien llego a la meta hoy en la tarde con su dupla Miguel.  Completo la ruta en 107 horas tomando el segundo puesto de dupla mixta en su primera carrera de ultraciclismo.

MARGARITA SEPULVEDA: Maggie alcanzo CP3 hoy en la tarde antes de su cierre a las 18:00. Maggie sigue en ruta muy motivada para llegar a la meta como finisher.
JACKIE BAKER: Jackie termino la ruta hoy en la tarde y saco el segundo lugar de las mujeres individuales. Muchas felicitaciones Jackie!!

SUSAN BARRAZA: Susan comenzo el dia con buen tiempo para llegar a CP3, pero un problema con el nucelo de su rueda la obligo bajar de la bici y caminar los ultimos kms a CP3. Afortunadamente logro conseguir otra rueda y pudo seguir en la ruta. Se viene el ultimo tramo de la ruta por Susan y estaremos atentos para ver si sigue adelante y toma el tercer lugar de las mujeres en la categoria individual.

DANIELA NAVARRETE: Daniela lamentablemente abandona Across Andes al 5 de Across Andes luego de sufrir una caída que la dejó golpeada y adolorida. A pesar de ello, con su dupla lograron hacer una increíble carrera.

PATRICIA VOLPATO: Patricia abandona la carrera, lamentablemente, alrededor del kilómetro 590 en el día cinco de la carrera. Patricia realizó una muy buena carrera con su dupla y ahora podrán descansar de la exigencia de la carrera.

# Day 5
ISIDORA SOLARI: Congratulations to Isi who arrived at the finish line today in the afternoon with her partner Miguel. She completed the route in 107 hours and took second place in the mixed pairs category, this was her first ultra-cycling race.

MARGARITA SEPULVEDA: Maggie arrived at CP3 today in the afternoon just before the CP closed at 6pm. Maggie is back on the road and more motivated than ever to compelte Across Andes before the final cut off.

JACKIE BAKER: Jackie finished the route this afternoon and took second place in the individual women's category. Many congratulations Jackie !!

SUSAN BARRAZA: Susan started the day with plenty of time to get to CP3, however a problem with the hub of her wheel meant she had to walk the final kms to the check point. Fortunately she was able to get another wheel and could get back on the road. The last part of the route is now ahead of her and we will be waiting to see if she is she continues to stay ahead and take 3rd place in her category.

ANGELICA BAÑEZ: Angélica has ridden a total of 937 kilometers, she is very close to achieving her Across Andes goal and completing the race within the prescribed time. We hope she reaches the finish line on the 6th day of the race.

DANIELA NAVARRETE: Daniela unfortunately leaves Across Andes on the 5th day of Across Andes after suffering a fall that left her beaten and sore. Despite this, the pair has managed to have an incredible race.

PIA SANHUEZA: (pictured) On day 4 of Across Andes, Pía finished the race with her pair, winning the mixed pair's category. reaching the finish line at 9.51 in the morning, and managing to complete the race in a total of 97 hours and 51 minutes. We congratulate the first mixed pair to reach the goal.

PATRICIA VOLPATO: Patricia leaves the race, sadly, around kilometer 590 on day five of the race. Patricia had a very good race with her pair and now they will be able to rest from the demands of the race.

Women Of Across Andes - Day 5

### Dia 4

ISIDORA SOLARI: Isi y su dupla Miguel llegaron a CP3 alrededor de las 2 de la tarde. Ahora sigue en ruta, con un total de 835kms sumado. Esperamos que mañana lleguen a la meta por su merecido descanso.

MARGARITA SEPÚLVEDA: Margarita llego a CP2 hoy en la mañana, antes de su cierre al mediodía. Sigue con ánimo y ya lleva 606 kms, pero se nota que esta muy cansada y esta comenzando a dudar si va a llegar al CP3 antes del cierre. Esperamos que con un buen descanso hoy se levanta renovada mañana para completar este gran desafÍo.

PAOLA MARTÍNEZ: Desafortunadamente el día de hoy, Paola se tuvo que retirar por una lesion de su dupla. Fue una decision muy dificil de tomar por ellos y mandamos mucho animo y amor a Paola y Ivan. Estamos orgullosos de la carrera que hicieron y sabemos que volverán.

JACKIE BAKER: Jackie llego a CP3 temprano hoy y con su ritmo constante va puede a la meta mañana y tomar el segundo puesto en la categoria de mujeres. Al día 4 de Across Andes, leva ya 842 km.

__ASHLEY CARELOCK: Desafortunadamente el martes durante la noche un grupo de perros atacaron a Ashley y la mordieron fuerte. Ella intentó limpiar sus heridas y seguir pero el dolor y preocupación de infeccion la obligaron retirarse de la carrera e ir al hosptial. El equipo de Across la acompañó y esta ahora se ha recuperando bien. Después de una carrera increible tan cerca de llegar a la meta, eso no fue el final que visualizábamos. Esperamos que esté recuperándose bien y la felicitamos por su increíble desempeño.__

SUSAN BARRAZA: Susan sigue fuerte, sumando 150 kms más hoy. Esta descansando por la noche en Valdivia y llegara al CP3 mañana durante el dia. 

ANGÉLICA IBAÑEZ: Al día 4 de Across Andes, Angélica acumula una suma de 762 kms, y está ya muy cerca del punto de control 3. Va a un muy buen ritmo con su dupla, y se espera puedan avanzar de forma progresiva los kilómetros que restan.

MARÍA BELÉN SAEZ: María Belén abandona la carrera el día 4 de Across Andes, con un total de 459 kilómetros. Estamos muy felices de haber contado con la presencia de Belén, felicitamos cada uno de los kilómetros acumulados y la esperamos para futuras versiones de AA.

__SONIA COLOMO: Al momento de este reporte, Sonia se coronó como la ganadora de Across Andes 2021 en categoría femenina individual. La corredora española completó la ruta de 1.050 kilómetros con una altitud total de 15.000 metros de altitud. Completar un desafío de esta envergadura en categoría individual presenta una dificultad enorme para cualquier mujer, y celebramos a la ganadores por el tiempo alcanzado y cumplir con su plan desde un principio.__

DANIELA NAVARRETE: Daniela alcanzó el punto de control 2 en la madrugada del día 4, y hoy ya ha avanzado considerablemente en camino al punto de contrOl 3. Vemos que esta corredora con su dupla van a un excelente ritmo, y con tiempo para terminar el total de los kilómetros de muy buena forma.

PÍA SANHUEZA: Pía llegó al punto de control 3 temprano en el día 4 de la carrera, a las 7.15 am. Esta corredora con su dupla van liderando la categoría de duplas mixtas, y al cierre de este reporte llevaban acumulados un total de 918 kilómetros. Se estima lleguen prontamente a la meta de la carrera, liderando su categoría.

PATRICIA VOLPATO: Patricia logró llegar al punto de control 2 al mediodía, justo antes del cierre. Al reporte de este informe, la corredora acumula un total de 590 kilómetros. Informa que el día 5 de la Across Andes descansarán en Panguipulli para partir en la madrugada al punto de control 3.

### Day 4

ISIDORA SOLARI: Isi and her dupla Miguel arrived at CP3 around 2pm. They are still on the road, with a total of 835kms. We will be watching to see if they arrive at the finish tomorrow and can have a well-deserved rest.

MARGARITA SEPÚLVEDA: Margarita arrived at CP2 this morning, before it closed at midday. She is still with a positive mindset and has now ridden 606kms. However you can see she is very tired and she is beginning to doubt whether she will make it to CP3 on time. We hope that after a rest, she will be filled with energy ready to meet the challenge.

PAOLA MARTÍNEZ: Unfortunately Paola had to scratch beacuse of her pair's injury. This was a very difficult decision for them both and we send Paola and Ivan all of our best wishes.

JACKIE BAKER: Jackie arrived at CP3 early this morning and with her strong steady pace she looks likely to arrive tomorrow and take the second place in the women's individual category. She has currently ridden a total of 842km.

__ASHLEY CARELOCK: Unfortunately on Tuesday evening Ashley was attacked by dogs and badly bitten. She attempted to clean her wounds and kept cycling but in the end the worst of her injury and her concern that it might be infected led her to withdraw and go to a local hospital to be checked out. The Across Andes staff went with her and she is now recovering well. After an incredible race, leading the women's category from the start and with only the last 200kms or so to go, this was not the ending anyone wanted or expected for Ashley. We hope she is recovering and congratulate her for her amazing performance.__

SUSAN BARRAZA: Susan is carrying on strong, having ridden a total of 150km today. She is currently spending the night in Valdivia and will arrive at CP3 during the day tomorrow.

ANGÉLICA IBAÑEZ: On day 4 of Across Andes, Angélica accumulated a sum of 762 kms, and is already very close to checkpoint 3. She is at a very good pace with her duo, and it is expected that she can progressively advance the remaining kilometers.

MARÍA BELÉN SÁEZ: María Belén leaves the race on day 4 of Across Andes, with a total of 459 kilometers. We are very happy to have had the presence of Belén, we congratulate each of the accumulated kilometers and we wait for her for future versions of AA.

__SONIA COLOMO: At the time of this report, Sonia was crowned the winner of Across Andes 2021 in the individual female category and 9th overall. The Spanish runner completed the 1,050-kilometer route with a total altitude of 15,000 meters. Completing a challenge of this magnitude in the individual category presents an enormous difficulty for any woman, and we celebrate the winners for the time reached and fulfilling their plan from the beginning.__

Women Of Across Andes Day 4 // Dia 4

Los ciclistas llegaron por primera vez al océano pacífico dejando de lado los lagos y volcanes de los andes. La ruta continuó siendo desafiante pero en este sector hay mayor porcentaje de pavimento y menos puertos de montaña. Sin embargo, como todo en chile, la ruta está permanentemente subiendo y bajando lo que desgasta permanentemente a los ciclistas y dificulta el camino hacia la meta.

Por primera vez en la carrera Timothy Ruedlinger supero a la dupla de Andrés Tagle y Rodrigo Errazuriz a mediados del día. Esta batalla épica continuó por varios kilómetros hasta que Timothy logró consolidar una buena ventaja seguido por el mexicano Sebastián Miranda quien busco acercarse a lo largo del día. La noticia de que Andrés Tagle estaba lesionado y no iba a poder continuar llegó por la tarde faltando un poco más de 100 km para la meta y allanó el camino para que Thmothy llegue primero y en soledad a Melipuco para coronarse como el campeón de la edición 2021 del Across Andes. El segundo en llegar a la meta fue Sebastián Miranda que durante toda la carrera estuvo siempre cerca de los primeros puestos. El español Ignacio Pellejero se perfila como candidato a completar el podio seguido de cerca por el muy experimentado Axel Carion que el último día avanzó numerosas posiciones.

La batalla por el título femenino es apasionante estando Sonia Colomo y Ashley Carelock cara a cara faltando 100 km para el final. Ashley estuvo al frente casi 900 km de carrera siempre seguida de cerca por la española. Lamentablemente Ashley sufrió un ataque de perros sueltos y debe asistir al hospital antes de decidir si va a continuar. A lo largo del día habrá que ver si la española podrá mantener esta pequeña ventaja para quedarse con el título. Por el momento la estadounidense Jackie Baker continúa en tercera posición persiguiendo a las dos punteras.

La Categoría DUPLA ahora se encuentra liderada por los chilenos Ivars Grinbergs y Julen Gallastegui que a lo largo de la carrera siempre se encontraron en las primeras posiciones y se encuentran a más de 100 km de las parejas perseguidoras. El segundo puesto está disputado por tres parejas entre las cuales se destaca la pareja mixta de Isi Solari y Miguel Angel Diaz que a lo largo de todos estos días compartieron con detalle su experiencia por medio de las redes sociales y más allá del cansancio se encuentran persiguiendo firmemente y con energías. Los ciclistas que buscan llegar al CP3 a tiempo deben enfrentarse a lluvia y frío durante el día, que aparece por primera vez en la carrera y va a generar un desgaste importante en los ciclistas.

The cyclists reached the Pacific Ocean for the first time, leaving aside the lakes and volcanoes of the Andes. The route continued to be challenging but in this sector there is a higher percentage of pavement and fewer mountain passes. However, like everything else in Chile, the route is constantly going up and down, which permanently wears out the cyclists.

For the first time in the race, Timothy Ruedlinger surpassed the pair of Andrés Tagle and Rodrigo Errazuriz in the middle of the day. This epic battle continued for several kilometers until Timothy managed to consolidate a good advantage followed by the Mexican Sebastián Miranda who sought to get closer throughout the day. The news that Andrés Tagle was injured and was not going to be able to continue came in the afternoon with a little more than 100 km to go to the finish line and opened the way for Timothy to arrive first and alone in Melipuco to be crowned the champion of the edition 2021 of the Across Andes. The second to reach the finish line was Sebastián Miranda, who was always close to the top positions throughout the race. The battle for the women's title is exciting with Sònia Colomo and Ashley Carelock head to hear with 100 km to go. Ashley led almost 900 km of the race, always closely followed by the Spanish. Sadly Ashley suffered a stray dog attack and she must attend the hospital before deciding if she is going to continue or not. Throughout the day it will be necessary to see if the Spanish will be able to maintain this small advantage to stay with the title. At the moment the American Jackie Baker continues in third position chasing the two leaders.

The DUPLA Category is now led by the Chileans Ivars Grinbergs and Julen Gallastegui who throughout the race always found themselves in the top positions and are more than 100 km from the chasing pairs. The second place is contested by three couples, among which the mixed couple of Isi Solari and Miguel Angel Diaz stands out, who throughout all these days shared their experience in detail through social networks and beyond fatigue they are chasing firmly and energetically.

### Dia 3

ISIDORA SOLARI: Ayer Isi siguió pedaleando durante buen parte de la noche, llegando a CP2 a las 9:45hrs. Al fin del dia de hoy lleva 669kms y va avanzando firme para CP3. Se nota el cansancio pero todavia hay buen animo y se van apoyando mucho entre Isi y su dupla Miguel.

MARGARITA SEPÚLVEDA: Margarita sigue con la mente muy firme y con mucha energia y positividad. Paso a almorzar en Curarrehue y ahora en la tarde se paso por Pucon. Ya lleva 414kms y va en buen camino para alcanzar CP2 mañana.

PAOLA MARTÍNEZ: Hoy Paola y Ivan siguen a su ritmo constante, sumando mas de 100kms hoy y en buen camino por el proximo punto de control.

JACKIE BAKER: Jackie paso por el CP2 hoy alrededor de las 7:30hrs. Sigue en la ruta y al tiempo de este reporte llevaba 637kms, con mas de 200kms de ellos en el dia de hoy.

ASHLEY CARELOCK: Ashley va a un ritmo impresionate. Primera mujer en pasar CP3 tipo 18:30 y siguió en ruta enseguida. Lleva más de 750kms ahora y se viene el ultimo tramo del desafio por este gran corredora. Estaremos atentas para ver si termina la carrera mañana.

SUSAN BARRAZA: Ayer Susan paso la noche en Currarehue y partió temprano, antes de que saliera el sol. Paso por el punto de control 2 hoy por la tarde y ahora va a descansar y pasar la noche en Nelyume.

ANGÉLICA IBAÑEZ: Al día 3 de Across Andes, Angélica acumula la suma de 574 kilómetros a la hora de este reporte. Va a muy buen ritmo con su dupla, y si no tienen algún inconveniente, es posible evaluar que podrán terminar los kilómetros que les quedan hasta el punto de control 3 sin problemas durante los próximos dos días.

MARÍA BELÉN SÁEZ: Belén acumula al día 3 un total de 428 kilómetros, y podemos identificar que avanza de forma sostenida en los primeros días de carrera, considerando especialmente que los días 1 y 2 tenían un nivel de ascensión desafiante, estimamos que podrá ir pedaleando más kilómetros diariamente de cara a los siguientes días.

SONIA COLOMO: (en la foto) Sonia llegó al punto de control 2 en mitad de la noche del día 2, alcanzando a la hora de este reporte la suma de 750 kilómetros, restando para el término de la carrera solamente 300 kilómetros. Se espera que esta corredora esté dentro de las primeras mujeres en su categoría en alcanzar la meta.

DANIELA NAVARRETE: A las 8pm, Daniela alcanzaba la suma de 480 kilómetros. Estamos confiadas de que durante los próximos días podrá aumentar los kilómetor spor día con su dupla para ir acercándose a la mitad de la carrera.

PIA SANHUEZA: A las 10pm de este reporte, Pia acumula la impresionante suma de 664 kilómetros. Al día 3, vemos que con su dupla han podido dosificar sus esfuerzos y organizar los kilómetros a avanzar dia a dia. Se acercan al punto de control 3.

PATRICIA VOLPATO: Patricia y su dupla el día 3 de Across Andes llevan 446 kilómetros acumulados, en los primeros más duros días de la carrera. Actualmente pasarán la noche en Coñaripe, para el día de mañana acercarse al punto de control 2.

### Day 3

ISIDORA SOLARI: Yesterday Isi kepy riding well into the night and arrived this morning at CP2 at 9:45am. At the end of the day she has accumulated 669kms and is going strong for CP3. You can tell that she is starting to get very tired but the support between her and her pair Miguel is clearly helping to keep her motivated.

MARGARITA SEPÚLVEDA: Margarita is going strong with a great positive attitude and lots of energy. She stopped to have lunch in Curarrehue and in the aftermoon stopped in Pucon. She has now ridden a total of 414kms and will safely reach CP2 tomorrow.

PAOLA MARTÍNEZ: Today Paola and Ivan continued at their strong constant pace. adding 100kms to their total ridden today. They are on a good path to the next checkpoint.

JACKIE BAKER: At 7:30am Jackie passed through CP2 and carried on the road. At the time of this report she had riddem 637kms, with more than 200kms of which she has ridden today.

ASHLEY CARELOCK: Ashley is riding at an impressive pace. She is the first woman to get to CP3, passing through briefly at 6:30pm today before continuing on the road. She is now resting and will continue in the early hours of the morning. Over 750kms into the route, Ashley now has the final section ahead of her. We will be watching to see if she finishes tomorrow evening!

SUSAN BARRAZA: Yesterday Susan spent the night in Currarehue and left early this morning, before the sun was up. She passed CP2 late this afternoon and is now resting in Nelyume where she will spend the night.

ANGÉLICA IBAÑEZ: On day 3 of Across Andes, Angélica accumulates the sum of 574 kilometers at the time of this report. She is going at a very good pace with her duo, and if they do not have any inconvenients, it is possible to assess that they will be able to finish the remaining kilometers to checkpoint 3 without problems during the next two days.

Women Of Across Andes Day 3 Update

### [Mai Parodi](https://www.instagram.com/mai_parodi/) and [Emma Shires](https://www.instagram.com/emma.jane.s/) have been providing updates for the women's field at Across Andes. Here are the day 1 and day 2 updates in English and Spanish.

### Español Día 1:

1. Isidora Solari (en dupla con Miguel Díaz). 11 Día 1 alcanzó la distancia de 239 kilómetros, con su dupla el corredor nº 29.  Isisdora tiene bastante experiencia en el ciclismo de ruta y es una corredora competitiva. Esta dupla ha venido muy firme, alcanzando el punto de control 1 en el primer día de la carrera. Ambos han permanecido a un ritmo constante y son una de las duplas mixtas a las que hay que estar atentos.

2. Margarita Sepúlveda 16. A esta corredora en categoría individual se le ve a las 10:15 minutos del día 1 en el kilómetro 147. Va a un ritmo moderado pero concentrada para poder llegar cerca de la tarde del día 2 al punto de control 1. Alrededor del kilómetro 50 de comenzar la ruta, tuvo un problema de navegación y se perdió, peor prontamente pudo retomar la ruta planeada.

3. Paola Martinez (en dupla con Iván Isla). 49 Paola corre con Iván, pareja que ya tiene varios kilómetros en el cuerpo y distancias largas. En el día 1, a las 1030 de la noche, completaron un total de 145 kilómetros. Llegarán al punto de control 1 en el día 2, con una mente fuerte y determinados a completar esta hermosa ruta.

4. Jackie Baker 60 Esta corredora de Estados Unidos completó en el día 1 de Across Andes el total de 188.9 kilómetros, acumulando alrededor de 1.400 metros de ascenso. Se espera que alcance el punto de control 1 al día 2, con mucha energía y determinación.

5. Ashley Carelock 65 (en la foto de abajo en el punto de control 2) La ganadora en categoría solo de mujeres de la primera versión de Across Andes, termina su día 1 con un total de 253 kilómetros, alcanzando el control 1. Es la primera mujer de su categoría individual en llegar al punto de control. El día dos continuará para seguir en ruta hacia la ciudad de Curarrehue. Ashley cuenta con la ventaja sobre las demás corredoras de ya haberse enfrentado a un desafío de características similares, así que estaremos atentas a su desempeño.

6. Susan Barraza 68 (imagen destacada) Susan es una ciclista experimental en ruta y mountainbike que hace un tiempo ya probó el Gravel y se unió a este gran desafío. Termina el día 1 de la carrera con 173 kilómetros, y llegará al punto de control 1 en el día 2 de la carrera. Es una corredora fuerte que confía mucho en su preparación mental, así que también estaremos atentas a ella.

7. Angelica Ibañez (en dupla con Federico Rodriguez). Angélica corre con Federico, y el día 1 acumularon 166 kilómetros. Se estima que el día 2 puedan estar alcanzando el punto de control 1, para continuar con los 852 kilómetros en los 6 días que quedan de carrera.

8. María Belén Saez (en dupla con Nicolás Raposo). 85 María Belén acumula la distancia de 147 kilómetros el día 1 de la Across Andes. En dupla con el corredor nº 86, se espera alcancen el punto de control 1 en el día 2 de la competencia.

9. Sonia Colomo 90 El día 1 de Across Andes, la corredora con el nº 90 acumula un total de 231 kilómetros, quedando muy cerca del punto de control 1. Junto a Ashley, las dos corredoras en categoría individual que más se acercaron al punto de control 1 en el primer día de la carrera. Una corredora a la que estar atenta en los próximos días.

10. Daniela Navarrete (en dupla con Emmanuel Salinas). Esta corredora va en dupla con el corredor nº 97, acumulador el primer día de la Across Andes un total de 185 kilómetros. El día 2 de la carrera se acercarán al punto de control 1, con mucha energía y ánimo, para enfrentar algunas cuestas que quedan en el tramo siguiente.

11. Pia Sanhueza (en dupla con Alfredo Irarrázaval) 101 Esta ciclista muy experimentada que viene de la ruta, compite en pareja con el corredor nº 100, y ambos llegaron el primer día de Across Andes al punto de control 1 de manera exitosa. Pía es una corredora muy competitiva, y muy motivada por su familia, por lo que de todas maneras tenemos que estar atentas a cómo se desempeña en esta primera carrera de ultraciclismo en la que compite, ya que puede disputar su categoría.

### English Day 1:

1. Isidora Solari (in a pair with Miguel Díaz). At 11pm on day 1, she reached the distance of 253 kilometers, with her pair, runner #29. Isidora has a lot of experience in road cycling and is a competitive racer. This pair has been very firm, reaching checkpoint 1 on the first day of the race. Both have remained at a constant pace and are one of the mixed pairs to watch out for.

2. Margarita Sepúlveda 16. This individual category Chilean cyclist is seen at 10:15 at night on day 1 at kilometer 147. She is at a moderate but concentrated pace to be able to reach checkpoint 1 around the afternoon of day 2. After starting the route, she had a navigation problem and got lost, but soon he was able to resume the planned route.

3. Paola Martinez (in a duo with Iván Isla). 49 Paola rides with competitor #48, a couple who already have several kilometers in the body and long distances. 5. Ashley Carelock 65 (pictured above at checkpoint 2). The winner in the women's individual category of the first version of Across Andes, finishes her day 1 with a total of 253 kilometers, reaching checkpoint number 1. ISIDORA SOLARI: En dia 2 Isi sigue firme con su dupla, Miguel. A las 21:20hrs llevan 456kms a un ritmo constante y con mucho ánimo, evidente en sus historias en redes sociales. Van en bien camino para llegar al CP2 mañana.

MARGARITA SEPÚLVEDA: Margarita salio un poco de la ruta de nuevo hoy pero sigue con mucha energia y llego al CP1 un poco antes de las 16hrs. Paró a comer bien en Cunco y ahora sigue en camino y va mentalizada para llegar al CP2 pasado manana al mediodia. A 18:30hrs lleva 260kms en total.

PAOLA MARTÍNEZ: Paola y su dupla Ivan llegaron a CP1 justo a tiempo antes de su cierre. Vienen a un ritmo constante con mucha buena energia. Despues de CP1 paraban en Cunco para comer y descansar antes de seguir la ruta manana.

JACKIE BAKER: (en la foto de arriba) Con su mente fuerte y siempre una sonrisa, Jackie va firme con un total de 417km a las 20:00hrs. Ha estado sufriendo un poco con el sol, pero no hay nada que puede bajar su animo. Con una parada rapida para comprar una polera manga larga, sigue en buen camino para llegar a CP2 manana.

ASHLEY CARELOCK: Ashley llego a CP2 alredEdor de las 8pm, siendo la unica mujer de alcanzar CP2 hoy. Ya lleva mas o menos la mitad del total kilometraje de Across Andes y va fuerte y con la mente firme para sacar un tiempo increible de nuevo este año.

SUSAN BARRAZA: Despues de un buen descanso durante la noche, Susan llego a CP1 a las 11:42 y sigue fuerte en camino a CP2. Tiene algo de dolor en su rodilla pero sigue avanzando a buen ritmo, llevando un total de 352km a las 21:20.

ANGÉLICA IBAÑEZ: Esta corredora marcó su última señal a las 9 de la noche, con un total de 368 kilómetros en el día dos de Across Andes. Alcanzando el Punto de Control 1 el día lunes, se espera que el día martes partan temprano para alcanzar el punto 2. Van a un ritmo constante y prudente para dosificar sus esfuerzos.

MARÍA BELÉN SÁEZ: María Belén se encuentra a la hora de este reporte en Playa Negra, acumulando un total de 368 kilómetros al día 2 de la carrera. Va avazando a un buen ritmo y se espera alcance el punton de control 2 durante el día 3 de la Across Andes.

SONIA COLOMO: Al cierre de este reporte, Sonia ha alcanzado la suma de 500 kilómetros en los primeros dos días de carrera, a un increíble paso, constante y determinada. Esta corredora se espera que alcance el punto de control 3 en los próximos días, lo que nos demanda que estemos muy atentas a su desempeño.

DANIELA NAVARRETE: Daniela al día 2 de la Across Andes acumula la suma de 324 kilómetros, y esperamos que durante el día 3 de la carrera pueda alcanzar el punto de control 2. Daniela ha avanxado a un buen ritmo los primeros dos días de carrera, considerando especialmente la altimetría inicial y lo desafiante que ha sido acostumbrarse a las largas distancias con tanta elevación.

PIA SANHUEZA: Al día 2 de Across Andes, Pia, la corredora nº 101, experimentada en rutas desafiantes de gravel ya siento una Fire Flies, al cierre de este reporte, acumuló la suma de 480 kilómetros, acercándose estratégica y organizadamente al punto de control 3 que se ubica a los 780 kilómetros, aproximadamente. Acompañada de su dupla, es una mujer a la que estaremos muy atentas.

PATRICIA VOLPATO: La corredora nº1 acumula al día 2 de la Across Andes la suma total de 268 kilómetros, y ha ido avanzando en buenas condicioens hacia el punto de control 2, ubicado en el kilómetro 512, de un total de 1.050 que tiene toda la carrera. Además, se reporta que con su dupla pudieron pasar a disfrutar las termas ubicadas cercanas a la zona, buena forma de recuperar la musculatura y seguir preparándose para lo que se viene.

She has been suffering a little with the sun, but there is nothing that can put Jackie down and after a quick stop to buy a long sleeved shirt she was quickly back on the road. She is well on her way to arriving at CP2 tomorrow.

ASHLEY CARELOCK: Ashley arrived at CP2 around 8pm, and is the only woman who has arrived at CP2 today so far. With already around half of the total kms under her belt, Ashley is going strong and well on her way to another incredible overall time again this year.

Women of Across Andes Day 1 and Day 2

El camino al CP2 no dio tregua con una gran trepada de gravel en el comienzo y pequeños puertos en el tramo final evidenciando la gran dificultad de la carrera. Los caminos de gravel con muchas rocas sueltas generaron un desgaste importante en las bicicletas causando el abandono de varios corredores como el experimentado Cristian muñoz. También los problemas físicos no faltaron y varios corredores de la categoría SOLO como DUPLAS debieron abandonar la competencia descalificando automáticamente a sus parejas.  Sin embargo, este es uno de los días mas bellos de la competencia ya que el camino se encuentra rodeado permanentemente de hermosos lagos que deleitaron a los ciclistas a lo largo del recorrido.

Durante la noche muchísimos ciclistas continuaron su camino prácticamente sin descaso y luego del Cp1 se enfrentaron a la interminable cuesta en la oscuridad. La gran cantidad de pueblos en este sector del recorrido facilitó el abastecimiento de los ciclistas a lo largo del día y permitió que avancen con gran velocidad.

A lo largo del día el ritmo de la carrera aumentó y Andres Tagle junto a Rodrigo Errazuriz consolidaron su ventaja seguidos de cerca por Timothy Ruedlinger. El Chilenos Tomas Baeza junto al español Ignacio Pellejero y el mejicano Sebastián Miranda se encuentran en un segundo grupo persiguiendo a los punteros sin descanso. Ashley Carelock avanzó numerosas posiciones y ahora se encuentra muy cerca del chileno Felipe Román conformando un tercer grupo de persecución. Ashley está estirando su ventaja hacia la española Sonia Colomo y la estadounidense Jackie Baker que están haciendo una gran carrera y sobrepasando gran cantidad de ciclistas.

The road to CP2 started with a huge climb at the beginning and small passes in the final section on the second day showing the great difficulty of the race. The gravel roads with many loose rocks generated significant wear on the bikes causing the abandonment of several riders such as the experienced Cristian Muñoz. Also physical problems affected the cyclists in the SOLO and PAIRS category so many DUPLAS had to leave the competition automatically disqualifying their partners. However, this is one of the most beautiful days of the competition since the road is permanently surrounded by beautiful lakes that delighted the cyclists along the route.

During the night many cyclists continued on their way with practically no rest and after Cp1 they faced the endless hill in the dark. The large number of towns in this sector of the route facilitated the supply of food and water for the cyclists during the day and allowed them to advance with great speed.

Throughout the day the pace of the race increased and Andrés Tagle and Rodrigo Errazuriz consolidated their advantage, closely followed by Timothy Ruedlinger. The Chileans Tomas Baeza with the Spanish Ignacio Pellejero and the Mexican Sebastián Miranda are in a second group chasing the leaders relentlessly. Ashley Carelock advanced numerous positions and is now very close to the Chilean Felipe Román forming a third pursuit group. El camino al Cp1 fue brutal, con más de 4000 metros de desnivel acumulados en 260 km se puede considerar como la “etapa reina” de la carrera. Al kilómetro 15 los ciclistas se tuvieron que enfrentar al primer obstáculo de la carrera siendo este momento definitorio a la hora de separar los grupos y los favoritos. En la primera cuesta comenzó el ripio que según los corredores no dio tregua y por las imágenes se puede apreciar que había abundantes piedras sueltas y mucho serrucho lo que genera un desgaste físico, pero sobre todo mental en los ciclistas. Luego de un falso llano de 70 km continuaron 3 puertos encadenados de los cuales 2 consistían en caminos de tierra en mal estado con pendientes que superaban el 15%.

Para un ciclista es complicado empezar de 0 a 100 en 15 km y enfrentar un día como el de hoy. ¿Si te esforzas demasiado el primer día, vas a tener energías para mañana? Esta pregunta se deben estar haciendo muchos de los participantes y va a ser clave para analizar lo que va a estar pasando los siguientes días. Para los ciclistas que están peleando por llegar al CP1 a tiempo va a ser definitorio lo que pase esta noche.

La batalla por las primeras posiciones fue apasionante a lo largo del día y la punta estuvo dominada prácticamente por los locales y últimos campeones Rodrigo Erraruiz y Andrés Tagle que impusieron un ritmo brutal. Pero en los kilómetros previos al CP1 Renzo Corsini Y Timothy Ruedlinger cerraron la brecha y los sobrepasaron entrando a Cunco demostrando por que son los chilenos favoritos para la clasificación individual. El mexicano Sebastián Miranda y el Español Ignacio Pellejero llegaron minutos después con energías para perseguir a los chilenos. Por ahora Ashley Carelock está al frente de las mujeres pero cada vez más cerca se encuentra la española Sonia Colomo que amenaza con arrebatarle el liderato a la estadounidense.

Las caras de los corredores que fueron arribando al CP1 a lo largo de la tarden lo dicen todo. Tierra, sudor y mucho cansancio es el común denominador del día más complicado del desafío o por lo menos en más complicado en términos estadísticos. Sin embargo las sonrizas y la alegría no se hicieron faltar gracias a la belleza del recorrido.

The road to Cp1 was brutal, with more than 4000 meters of elevation accumulated in 260 km, it can be considered as the "queen stage" of the race. For a cyclist it is difficult to start from 0 to 100 in 15 km and face a day like today. If you try too hard on the first day, will you have energy for tomorrow? The battle for the first positions was exciting throughout the day and the lead was practically dominated by the locals and last champions Rodrigo Erraruiz and Andrés Tagle who imposed a brutal rhythm. The Riders (Español)

Dentro de los corredores chilenos hay muchas caras conocidas de la edición anterior que aspiran a un buen puesto en la categoría SOLO como Rodrigo Rojo último campeón y leyenda del ultraciclismo chileno, Christian Muñoz y Christobal Vera. Pero se incorporan caras de peso dentro del ámbito local como Timothy Ruedlinger, Renzo Corsini, Tomás Baeza y Felipe Román quienes son destacados en distintas disciplinas como CX y XC. Algo interesante
para remarcar es la diversidad de disciplinas de las que provienen los distintos corredores Chilenos, desde ultra Trail hasta cyclocross. La gran pregunta que genera esta diversidad de disciplinas es si los veteranos en la ultra distancia chilena podrán superar a los grandes atletas que debutan en la disciplina.

La presencia internacional este año es muy importante y está marcada por la participación de corredores con muchísima experiencia en competencias Ultra como Axel Carion (Francia), Michael Miani (Italia), Romain Babin (Francia) que definitivamente por su trayectoria son nombres a tener en cuenta.

La Veterana Ashley Carelock (USA) es una de las principales candidatas no solo para la categoría femenina sinó que para la general SOLO habiéndose destacado en la edición anterior y demostrando su superioridad física y mental. En su categoría ella no está sola y tiene una importante competencia junto a Sònia Colomo (España), Jackie Baker (USA) y Susan Barraza (Chile) quien tiene un importante repertorio en Brevets.

Across Andes es una de las pocas carreras en donde la categoría Dupla es de las más competitivas del mundo. Esto se debe al gran desempeño de Andrés Tagle / Canuto Errázuriz en la edición 2019 sacándole más de un día de diferencia al resto de los competidores e imponiéndose en la general. En base al gran desempeño que tuvieron en la última edición varias duplas van a intentar conseguir el primer puesto como Julen Gallastegui / Ivars Grimbers (Chile), Israel Escudero (Argentina) /Manuel José Conejeros (Chile) y Mauricio Silva / Pablo Herrera (Chile). No hay que dejar de ver a Vinicius Martin / Patricia Volpato (Brasil) quienes van a ir por el título en DUPLA MIXTA y tienen mucha experiencia en carreras de este tipo habiendo competido en Europa, Brasil y Perú.

But important faces are incorporated within the local sphere such as Timothy Ruedlinger, Renzo Corsini, Tomás Baeza and Felipe Román who are outstanding in different disciplines such as CX and XC. Something interesting to note is the diversity of disciplines from which the different Chilean racers come, from ultra trail to cyclocross. The big question generated by this diversity is whether the veterans in the Chilean ultra distance will be able to surpass the great athletes who make their debut in the discipline.

The international presence this year is very important and is marked by the participation of athletes with a lot of experience in Ultra competitions such as Axel Carion (France), Michael Miani (Italy), Romain Babin (France) who, due to their trajectory, are definitely names to have in consideration.

Veteran Ashley Carelock (USA) is one of the main candidates not only for the female category but also for the general SOLO category, having stood out in the previous edition and demonstrating her physical and mental superiority. In her category, she is not alone and she has an important competition with Sònia Colomo (Spain), Jackie Baker (USA), and Susan Barraza (Chile) who have an important repertoire in Brevets.

Across Andes is one of the few races where the PAIRS category is one of the most competitive in the world. This is due to the great performance of Andrés Tagle and Canuto Errázuriz in the 2019 edition, making more than a day of difference to the rest of the competitors and prevailing in the general classification. Based on the great performance that they had in the last edition, several pairs will try to get the first place such as Julen Gallastegui / Ivars Grimbers (Chile), Israel Escudero (Argentina) / Manuel José Conejeros (Chile) and Mauricio Silva / Pablo Herrera (Chile). Do not miss watching for Vinicius Martin / Patricia Volpato (Brazil) who are competing for the title in PAIRS MIXED and have a lot of experience in races of this type having competed in Europe, Brazil and Peru.

Soy [Juan Manuel Venturino](https://www.instagram.com/juanventu/), Ultra Ciclista Argentino y Veterano de la Across Andes 2019. A lo largo de esta edición de la carrera los voy a estar acompañando e informando sobre las novedades de la Across Andes 2021, espero que me acompañen!

A diferencia del año pasado donde solo largaron 26 ciclistas este año comenzaran el desafío más de 100 ciclistas que en su mayoría provienen de Chile aunque la presencia internacional se hace más importante que la edición pasada con deportistas de toda América latina y Europa.

La carrera se muda de los calores infernales del Norte Chico al clima templado de la Araucanía Andina. Se esperan condiciones óptimas para correr y pedalear tanto de día como de noche, la temperatura puede variar entre los 25 °C de día y 5 °C de noche sin probabilidades de lluvia y con baja velocidad del viento permitiendo que se desarrolle un espectáculo apasionante. La ruta está llena de pequeños puertos de montaña que en los 1000 km de recorrido se van a hacer pesar en las piernas y van a acumular 14000 metros de desnivel. La ruta atraviesa los andes y la cordillera de la costa teniendo esta menor elevación pero una gran dificultad técnica.

Race Preview (English)

I'm [Juan Manuel Venturino](https://www.instagram.com/juanventu/) (pictured above), Argentine Ultra Cyclist and Veteran of the Across Andes 2019. Throughout this edition of the race I will be accompanying and informing about the news of the Across Andes 2021, I hope you join me!

Unlike last year where only 26 cyclists started, this year more than 100 cyclists will start the challenge, most of whom come from Chile. Although the international presence is more important than the last edition with athletes from all over Latin America, North America and Europe. The race moves from the infernal heats of the Norte Chico (2019) to the temperate climate of the Andean Araucanía this year. Optimal conditions are expected for pedaling both day and night, the temperature can vary between 25 °C during the day and 5 °C at night with no chance of rain and with low wind speed allowing an exciting show to unfold.

The route is full of small mountain passes that in the 1000 km of the race will weigh on the legs accumulating 14,000 meters. The route crosses the Andes and the coastal mountain range having this lower elevation but a great technical difficulty.

Following the 2019 success, Across Andes is back for its second edition to challenge riders with its elevation, terrain and heat. For those who loved dotwatching Badlands, this will be one for you!

A route that's front-loaded with elevation is sure to do some damage to the rankings early on. Riders will immediately start climbing and after only 25km will have ascended 800m to tackle an unpaved 75km plateau at 1,150m elevation. Yikes!

Checkpoint 1 comes at 250km in Cunco, and will be a welcome respite from the high mountains before a rolling 280km through the Villarrica National park to the second checkpoint at Huilo Huilo. An unusual CP, this private nature reserve is known for its luscious hillsides which will be a marked contrast to the arid high Andes early in the race.

Much of the high mountains will have been completed before riders hit the coastal section at 650km marking the start of a 200km flat coastal stretch which will provide very little rest for riders. What doesn't go up, can't come down. Without the high climbs, riders are devoid of any rest and flat stretches can fatigue riders more than the mountains as they're always pedalling. We can only hope they have a tailwind along the South Pacific Ocean... CP3 comes in the middle of this flat stretch at 770km before one final push to the finish at 1,017km.
