Newbies depart

All riders accounted for now, last rider home was Ben Liguz (41) – 115 hours 57 minutes, fantastic perseverance to keep going knowing everyone else has finished and is chilling with a beer, massive well done!

Massive well done to Ang and Tori on a fantastic event, I doft my flat cap to you both.

This has been my 1st commentary stint, hopefully not my last, hope you all enjoyed it.

That's a wrap

I asked riders on the group for their feedback from APN, here is a few, Dan;

Barn owl flying next to me for 20 seconds heading to Runswick. A few metres away and lit up by my helmet light.
The whole thing has been an unbelievable experience. Not just the ride but the people and the ethos of the event. Something I will never forget.

APN21 pushed me far out of my comfort zone but it has also rewarded me with my greatest cycling achievement, a huge sense of accomplishment, satisfaction and pride (as well as numb feet and cankles 🤣) and this from someone who is never happy with her performance!
Having never done anything like this before it has been a fantastic learning curve and I’ve definitely caught the ultra bug, so I’m sure I’ll see many of you again soon.
Big thanks to Ang and Tori and all the volunteers for making this an experience to remember.

The tracker mapped stopped at 8pm, as stated on the map, however we do still have 3 riders (and some worried family members) out there. The team has emailed them requesting an extension of the tracker mapping, hopefully it'll be back up soon.

Ang and Tori have sent me this awesome graphic of all the routes taken by the apn riders and it just shows the unique nature of this event, simply mind boggoling.

Mornin' Update

Chasing down for third is almost as exciting as Brad Vs Pawel, I don't think my heart can take anything like that again.

Closest is Logan Mills 54 (Scafell detour), litterly followed by Tim Welsh 53 for this last part, coming in from 11 O'Clock is Callum James 43.

My bet is on Callum, I don't think he has stopped and is just ploughing his way around the north (and now south).

The speed and lack of rest from these guys is incredible, also compared to my own shorter (albiet wetter event) they are covering far more ground.

Fiona 8 is bossing the newbies and will be the 1st newbie and female home, in the main event females we have Carolyn and Charlotte 33 and 29 respectively, moneies on Charlotte as 33 has done a "value for money" ride.

Teams, 72 Hannah Larbalestier & Liam Bromiley is bossing the north, but lets please cheer on 76 – Laura Massey-Pugh & Steven Massey and do check out their insta for back of a tandem (yes a tandem) posting.

The battle for the last spot on the podium (on a race that's not a race)

1,000Km, free route, two dots colliding making an ever decreasing triangle, their paths only meeting at the very end, Bradley, the young cocksure Lancashire Lad, Pawel, the experienced rider, last winner of the event in 2019.

It was nail biting stuff, the winner was by 30 seconds, such a small margain after an epic ride from both guys.

Absolute amazing ride rider 77 Bradley Woofruff, and an amazing ride by Pawel, closest finish ever.

I need a drink now.

After 1,000Km of broken northern tarmac the winner is....

Crikey, this is going down to the wire! Elsewhere the battle for third in the non race is 53 and 54 Logan and Tim, what a recovery from Logan's off piste detour to come through and smash up APN like that, maybe the off road bit was a part of the plan?

Still too close to call

To all those that have scratched, getting stressed about finishing, or having a good cry (been there).

Comforting words

England's North has a reputation for being one of the most rugged, steep and exposed places to take a bike on tarmac. Riders have 10 checkpoints to reach in the order they feel is most efficient, or scenic! This is a race that favours the most well prepared riders who have struck their perfect balance of minimising both distance and elevation on their route which will tick off the East and West Coasts of Northern England traversing the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and the lumps in between.
