Well then, now almost all our riders are back safe and sound, it's time to reflect on an incredible achievement all around. Some wonderful stories and moments, and such a beautiful way to finish off all together in the evening. We could not be prouder of our Borderland family! We're already looking forward to next year.

It's been a very tough route for all 3 distances, with as big a test of climbing legs as you will find. Plenty of riders will be glad to see a flat road again! It's been one incredible vista to the next, to take the edge off tired legs and minds. As riders begin to process what they have achieved, we've seen plenty of satisfied faces and talk is already turning to what could be done differently next time.

Most riders finished throughout the afternoon in varying degrees of torrential downpour. Thankfully for many, this was only for the last few miles, having stayed clearer than expected all day.

As darkness fell, we entered into a pizza and beer powered story sharing gathering at the finish line, with friends and family joining in to unpack all the memories of the last few days. The last riders rolled over the line to be greeted by riding buddies and friends made along the journey. What a wonderful thing to be a part of, and so many incredible stories.

We will sort through the timing data in the coming days to finalise the chip timing results, as the system defaults to a first over the line method, which we need to adjust to our combined finish method.

We have covered a great deal of ground with photography & drone teams to try and catch as many riders as possible in the most spectacular locations. Look out for galleries and videos to be shared once we've finished processing them all. We've seen a sneak peak, and there are some real stunners!

All that's left to say is a massive thank you and we'll see you next year! ❤️

Many of our short route riders are catching the field now, so we're getting some good groups settling in. Finish will be buzzing!

Coming from behind

Everything is coming together this afternoon, with riders grouping together for the homeward leg. We are so proud of the riding everyone has done, it's been a dream. We are giving our support near the top of the Bwlch y Groes climb where it's needed most. From here it's a lovely run back with the hardest parts done.

Everyone is tired but happy after being treated to some of the finest riding.

We are starting to see a few more finishers now, with the bulk of the riders on course due to pass us on the pass in the next couple of hours.

Matt Hill & Jack Reynolds are cutting back from Rhayader, they should arriving about the same time as most others, and will be ready to celebrate!

It's even brightening up, so we're getting some lovely shots on the mountain.

Jack Tyler has just arrived home after a gruelling 500 miles. We caught up with him last night at CP3 where he took a well deserved break. He's ridden a steady pace from an earlier start and left himself plenty of breathing room with the time, well done Jack! A great achievement.

There may be some regrets out there for some other riders who have found themselves with a mammoth distance still to cover, we know a few are cutting back from the planned route to make it back. Alex Boswell suffered last night in his bid to complete the full pint fastest, and is now heading back from Knighton.

Helen Maguire has headed out to Llanwrtyd Wells, leaving our last group of Hatty Doherty, Dan Lipson, Mart Waters & Sam Firkins closely followed by Jonny Adamson with about 140 miles remaining. Abi Squires is still pushing on a little ahead of them.

CP3 is hotting up, as more riders are reaching the home stretch. A group of half pinters including Magdalena Watras & several others is just about to arrive.

We have a group making their way out of Dolgellau towards Dinas Mawddwy including Ben Nimmo & Huw Greenish, a couple of later starters from the half pint, who have put in a big shift overnight and are having great rides! They are with Will Scott-Rees from the full pint. Just up the road is Lou Johnston on the quarter pint, so a real mix of riders coming together now. They are about to descend down one of the fastest roads in the country, straight and wide, 100kph is possible for those who dare!

Our quarter pint riders are progressing rapidly, our very own James Davies of Mule Cycles is up the mountain after Bala with Mark Manson & Mayur Patel.

Lots of action today! We will all be looking forward to a good rest after a celebration tonight. 🎉

Daniel Magrizos has conquered the toughest climb on the route this morning, all will need to face this beast before entering the final miles. With sections up to 25% and an average gradient of 13.5% for more than 2km, it stands as a monument to climbing! We think it's worth it for the spectacular views on the way up and over, will our riders agree?

Either way it's one that will stick long in the memory, more stories to be shared tonight when the journey is complete.

There's always something special about the early morning, when there's no one about but you. Up here in the mountains it may seem empty, but somehow there's so much to fill you up. It's what keeps us coming back ❤️

Tranquility

Our last rider, Dave Scott is out on course on the quarter pint. He won the Pan Celtic Race this year, so 150 miles should be a walk in the park! We are wondering if he can catch them all before the end?

Last rider out of the gate

The last night on the road is nearly done for our riders, the daylight will bring relief to many! We are approaching the autumn equinox so although each night is only a few minutes longer than the last, it starts to feel like hours after being on the bike for so long. Thankfully, the storm from yesterday evening stayed South of CP3, and cleared away leaving a drier night for our many riders continuing through.

Most have made it as far as Rhayader, with around 130 miles remaining. They will be back this evening with everyone ready to welcome them in! The half pint riders are beginning to merge in with the full pint, with many having ridden through the night.

Jack Tyler is now at Lake Vyrnwy, with the hardest parts behind him. He will likely be first to finish the full pint, with Gareth Owen close behind.

We saw Tung Davey-Ma, Kate Patch, Lee Richards & Gary Clarke early yesterday looking cheery on Horseshoe Pass, they have pushed into the night before stopping after about 160 miles. An excellent leg under the belts, with only 100 miles remaining for today.

Dani Magrizos, Ben Nimmo & Huw Greenish were among our final starters on the half pint, they have ridden strongly through the night and are entering the final 100 miles also. Almost at the beach now, but no time to relax yet! Our crew are waiting to greet them for breakfast at CP3 Llwyngwril.

Lou Johnston is also approaching CP3 on the quarter pint, having started late yesterday for a lonely ride overnight. She'll find some company in riders from the longer routes after CP3.

A small group of riders including Sam Wade will be the last to leave Bala on the half pint, they'll be glad of the unusual tailwind helping them towards the coast!

It's an early start this morning for the rest of our quarter pint 150 mile riders. They are heading straight out across the mountains to CP3 Llwyngwril to join up with our longer routes for the return leg. They will be traversing the full width of Wales from border to beach!

Phil Gardner, Mayur Patel & Nicola Pettit are on their way already, with more to follow over the next couple of hours.

Huw Greenish is our last rider out on the half pint! He's already nearly at the beach at Colwyn Bay and needs a strong night to keep on pace.

Again, Bala and Lake Vyrnwy are magnets for tired riders, with a number of night stoppers now present.

Magdalena Watras is making excellent progress, after starting around 5 this morning, she's already more than 160 miles in and nearing CP3 Llwyngwril.

We caught up with Stephen Oates, Ben Cairns, Ollie Coughlan & Andy Budd on their way up the Bwlch y Hirnant this afternoon, complete with some wonderful drone shots for the Borderland movie. What a wonderful stretch of road, through the forested valley, up the steep valley wall at the end, and not a car in sight. These wide valleys were carved by glaciers, and there is ice in the glare against these gradients!

BorderLand500 is a new ultra-distance cycling event aimed at bridging the gap between sportives and 1000 + mile ultra races. With three routes to choose from all starting and finishing at the same location, distances are 150, 250 & 500 Mile routes around the stunning Welsh landscape.
