Monaco di Baviera Classic 2024: Recap video online!

Hi Dotwatchers! On Day 7 all remaining riders came to home! Big congratulations to Cap35 Felix Huber, Cap44 Erik Lommel, Cap25 Ferruccio Labita and Cap36 Anders Koponen!

Felix did not stop during the night to come to the finish very early in the morning. Really strong finish!

Erik Lommel needed to stop in the middle of the route for a full recovery day in a hotel because he was not feeling well. He recovered pretty well and did a strong finish.

Ferruccio Labita rode very consistent during the whole route and came to the finish with big smile. Congrats!

Finally Anders is the last one of the finishers. He had bag feelings the first day but he held on and recovered to continue strong during the whole route. While other riders were scratching, he continued solid until the finish, where he came destroyed but happy for the achievement. Well done!

With the four of them, it is 12 the amount of riders who finally achieved the finish line from the 29 who started. It gives an idea about how hard the challenge was, both for the route and for the weather. Again, congratulations to all 12 finishers and kudos to the 17 DNF who at least tried.

Monaco di Baviera Classic 2024: Day 7 and Recap

Hi Dotwatchers! During the day 6 in Monaco di Baviera Classic we had two more riders completing the challenge!
Cap40 Sebastian Amon and Cap23 Bastian Völkl make until 8 the amount of riders who already finished. Joris Bosch, Fynn Graf and Andreas Roelfs also came to receive them. Congratulations to both!

That makes just 4 more rides, the ones who are still on the route. Felix Huber and Ferruccio Labita have today completed the last parcour Edelweißspitze and they may arrive tonight. Behind them, Erik Lommel and Anders Koponen still need to cross the Größglockner Alpenstraße, but it seems they have enough time to get to the finish before the time closes on Sunday at 13h.

Monaco di Baviera Classic 2024: Day 6

Hi Dotwatchers! After the remarkable performance of the two first riders, at day 5 in Monaco di Baviera Classic we were able to see more riders arriving to the finish. Ray Dulieu, who made a very consistent ride during the whole challenge, needed a total time of 110 hours and 44 minutes. Less than 2 hours after him came Volker Drastik, great performance as well, with 112 hours and 35 minutes. Also Andreas Roelfs and Joris Bosch came to home almost together. Congrats to all 
four for such a great effort!

The day was hard, with rain again for most of the remaining riders. We encountered Andreas Roelfs heading to Edelweißspitze with great attitude despite the unannounced rain. It is very nice to see the riders smile under those hard circumstances, chapeau!

Michal Hampl also arrived home, but he missed both CP5 Rifugio Auronzo and parcour Passo della Forcella, therefore he needed to be disqualified.

The next ones should be Bastian Völkl and Sebastian Amon. You are almost there!

Scratch report:
- Kathrin Loer: the female representative decided to scratch because she realized that she would not have enough time to complete the whole route, so finally decided to go back to Munich through an alternative route.

Monaco di Baviera Classic 2024: Day 5

Hi Dotwatchers! Day 4 since the start and we already have two finishers! Fynn Graf, the youngest participant, made and impressive time of 3 days 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete the challenge. Some data: 1248 km, almost 25600m and 96% of moving average! Hier we are talking about a triple Everesting with just 2 hours of stop.
Also Joshua Hampp ended the route today with an official time of 3 days, 4 hours and 36 minutes, once applied the 4 hours time penalty after taking the chance to not to climb Passo Gavia due to possible 
snow and ice on the road.

Now there are a few riders heading to the last parcour, Edelweissspitze, specially Ray Dulieu and Volker Drastik. Both of them conquered Monte Zoncolan already.

Today we encountered cap30 Ehud Gera starting the Parcour 13. He wanted today to be as closer as possible to 200 km; not an easy goal when you are in the Dolomites!

Scratch report: today is the first one without Scratches! The remaining 17 survivers are holding on really good.

Monaco di Baviera Classic 2024: Day 4

Hi Dotwatchers! Already day 3 at Monaco di Baviera Classic! As most of the riders are leaving the alps behind, weather is being more stable.

Today we saw many riders climbing the epic passes in the Dolomites. Also we encountered with cap71 Kathrin Loer climbing Mortirolo strong and with great attitude.

Meanwhile, the Leaders Fynn Graf and Joshua Hampp have conquered the last parcour, Edelweissspitze, and are heading to Munich already! We expect that they may reach the finish around 6h in the morning. Very impressive!

Scratch report: only 17 riders still survive in the challenge! the following riders needed to scratch today and yesterday evening:
- Tomas Zaplatilek: he was feeling weak and decided to step back.
- Geoffrey Cleuren suffered stomach problems and was not able to eat what is needed.
- Raffael Hanschmann: he started the challenge already with some cough but he wanted at least to try. Cough was getting worse and decided to scratch to get better.
- Jarda Zakravsky felt that he didn't choose the right gears for the brutal climbs of the challenge and decided to scratch.

Monaco di Baviera Classic 2024: Day 3

Hi Dotwatchers! Day 2 at Monaco di Baviera Classic and the challenge is showing himself as half beauty - half brutality. Like if the route were not tough enough, the hard weather came today with heavy rains and snow over the 2.000m above see level. We have seen today pictures of a rider with serious amount of ice in the handlebar after trying to start the conquer of Passo Stelvio yesterday at 20h, with just one hour left of light. Other rider did conquer the King today at 8h, but with the road covered of snow. However we have seen the road cleaned already around 12h.

Meanwhile the group of leading riders is now just two, after Max Riese decided to scratch due to multiple issues including the break down of his navigator because of the amount of rain. Joshua Hampp is leading but Fynn Graf is nearby and Joshua has 4 hours penalty after skipping Passo Gavia.
The female representative Kathrin Loer continues strong and steady. Today conquered Passo Stelvio before the cleaning of the road, and has already scalated to the 17th position.

Scratch report: today's scratch report is as brutal as the challenge!
- Mariano Domingez - Aitor Benavent: the only pair is done after Mariano was not feeling good today. Aitor decided to continue as CREW.
- Max Riese scratched due to multiple issues including the break down of his navigator because of the torrential rain he experienced.
- Aron Kordt was not feeling in his full potential and decided not to risk his health.
- Robert Sovina also scratched due to health issues.
- Ralf Schmidt.
- Iñaki Camino Ezpeleta scratched for a tactical issue: he trusted the good weather forecast for the night and did biwak without shelter and actually there was heavy rain. He was exhausted and decided to take it easy; he continues as CREW.

Monaco di Baviera Classic 2024: Day 2

The challenge started today exactly at 05:00 with a temperature of around 15 grads and with no rain. It has been the perfect day to ride and all riders enjoyed the beauty of the route.
Regarding to the leaderboard, the difficulty of the route made big differences from the start. More than 10 riders achieved to cross Stelvio pass before the night, although the weather was pretty hard, with some rain and some ice rain.
Joshua Hampp, Fynn Graf and Max Riese are currently leading the challenge after crossing Fynn Graf, who not only crossed Passo Stelvio but Passo Mortirolo. Very impressive!
The only woman, Kathrin Loer, is ridding strong and made 267km the first day.

Scratch report: cap 15 Glenn Bloemmen scratched today because he was not feeling good. He was seen in a lot of pain climbing the segment before second parcour. We hope you can recover fast!

Monaco di Baviera Classic 2024: Day 1

Hello dotwatchers! The first edition of Monaco di Baviera Classic starts just in a few hours (22.06 5 am) with a total of 29 riders. Mainly the unstable weather forecast for the following days along with the difficulty of the route has let to see the cancelation of 24 riders during the last couple of days. Therefore, 29 brave riders (26 solo men, 1 solo woman and 2 men in pairs) will try to overcome this demanding route starting in Munich (Germany).
Among the participants there are from rookies in ultradistance until very known and recurrent ultracyclists:

Monaco di Baviera Classic: all set for tomorrow!

The Monaco di Baviera Classic is an ultimate self-supported ultracycling challenge that promises an exhilarating adventure.

Here’s what you need to know about the route:

__Starting Point:__ The challenge kicks off in Munich, Germany, on 22.06.2024.
__Route Highlights:__
- Passo dello Stelvio: This iconic pass, standing at 2,757 meters above sea level, is the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps and the second highest in the entire Alps. However, due to recent heavy snowfall in the Bormio area, it’s uncertain whether the road will be open. If not, riders will take the equally impressive Umbrail Pass (2,501 meters).
- Torri di Fraele: A beautiful climb awaits after Stelvio, offering stunning views.
- Passo Mortirolo: Known as one of the most iconic and historical passes from the Giro d’Italia, riders will tackle its demanding slopes (12.2 km at 10.7% gradient).
- Passo Gavia: At 2,621 meters, this pass could become the “Cima Coppi” of the route if Stelvio remains closed.
- Dolomites: Prepare for an epic 150 km stretch where riders conquer Passo Fedaia-Marmolada, Passo Pordoi, Passo Sella, Passo Gardena, Passo Valparola, Passo Falzarego, Passo Giau, and Tre Cime Lavaredo.
- Passo della Forcella: Located in the Ovaro area, this climb is tougher than Monte Zoncolan, with a 9 km ascent at a grueling 14.5% gradient and a terrifying last kilometer on scratched concrete at an average of 22.5% (maximum incline of 28%).
- Monte Zoncolan: One of the most feared climb, but it might feel like a piece of cake after Passo della Forcella.
- Return to Germany: With the Plöckenpass closed, riders may choose between the dreamy Alp Adria bike path or the shorter Polentin Pass (12.5 km of gravel) to cross into Austria.
- Grossglockner Alpenstrasse: Back in Austria, riders will face the Hochtor Pass and the Edelweißspitze (2,571 meters) into the Größglockner Hochalpenstraße before heading back to Munich.

Monaco di Baviera Classic 2024: route preview

Monaco di Baviera Classic 2024 tracking and commentary: semi-free route, which starts in Munich, which crosses through Austria and the Italian Dolomites.

Monaco di Baviera Classic 2024 Tracking

The first editon of Monaco di Baviera Classic 2024 is a semi-free route of 1200km and 27,000 meters elevation gain. To be included in general classification, riders must ride all 20 parcours in the given order, however they can choose to design their own route, or ride the route provided by the organisation team.

The challenge will see participants depart from Munich, before passing through Austria and the Italian Dolomites, and will include some classic Alpine climbs like Passo Stelvio, Passo Gavia, Passo Sella or Monte Zoncolan.
