After three previous editions, Jonas Verest wins. 

Previous winner Dominik Bokstaller suffered from stomach issues and dropped down the leaderboard whilst Simon Flury and Luis Gautschi came in in second and third respectively!

Well done to these strong riders.


JONAS WINS!

It has only been 1 day, 5 hours and 16 minutes but Jonas Verest and Dominik Bokstaller have already cracked 800km. This looks like an evening finish for this race is more than likely!

The best part, Dominik and Jonas have taken almost identical routes in an anticlockwise route around Switzerland. They're making their way South on the Eastern border towards CP2, they'll then have to spiral back into to the finish in Berne.

Despite being a seemingly complicated setup, the riders are all working in spirals from in to out, catching the CPs which are tucked away at the edges of the borders. 

With only 2 DNFs so far, this race is a great show of how racers can either be racing for time or racing for seeing a country with new eyes! With some fantastic views en route, this is a race to take some photos at. With plenty of riders going for hike-a-bike stair climbs to avoid the mountain passes, you'll see some slow moving moments.

We're all NORTH

SUCH is as much a game as it is an ultra-cycling race. A puzzle that appeals to those who want to challenge their mind as much as their endurance skills.

The riders must pass through all 26 Cantons (Swiss states) and catch 5 additional checkpoints with stamps scattered around Switzerland in ANY ORDER. The race starts at ANY train station in Switzerland at 10.10am local time and finishes in the Bundesplatz in Berne. This means that generally, a few tactical train stations are chosen by the riders at the start of the race.

This year, the riders look like they've been mostly departing from a station in the deep-SE of Switzerland called Melide, right by CP4. With both photographers there, it looks like the organisers knew this could be the most likely attack points.

Also picked were Pont Ceard near CP2 in the SW and just above (one stop away) in Tannay. One brave rider chose Olten in the mid-west and one chose Schaffhausen. These look more like local decisions rather than tactical ones, but who knows!

This year there is a unique twist, you can lose 2 of the cantons as long as you enter two foreign enclaves. This means that if you've planned your route solidly you could shave off a rather significant amount of distance, elevation or time.
