Bad weather has put a stop to many riders’ progress today, with a number of the top ten (Omar Di Felice, Todd Carpenter, Peter Jackson) opting to hide out in West Yellowstone. Two other top-tenners, Paolo Botti and Maximiliano Oliva, were holed up here too until braving the weather an hour or so ago:
Abdullah’s lead now stands at 300 miles. That’s at least one full day’s riding at pace for any of the other top racers, and at such an early stage in the event, it’s looking like first place might already be spoken for.
Further down the field, devoted dot watcher and certified trail angel Reyna Phil is still supporting riders as they pass through Idaho. She’s even opened her home to those in need of a hot shower and somewhere to dry their clothes:
