A stalwart of the TransAm bike trail, Newton Bike Shop sits at mile 2,588, in Kansas, shortly after the half way mark.

It’s a pivotal point in the race, and somewhere riders traditionally stop for refreshments, spares, repairs, or even to make use of the shop’s small hostel. When the TransAm is in full-swing, Newton’s stays open round the clock, ready to receive the weariest competitors no matter what time they might need help.

Race leader Marcel stopped by, and is now roughly 160km further down the route. Second place rider Peter Andersen is currently 30km out, but could forgo the luxury of stopping in favour of continuing the chase...
