Yesterday evening the final die-hard road warriors were on the final approach into Sheffield, 120 long hard hours into the race. 

Patrick Douglas and David Alderson contested a sprint finish into Sheffield with David just taking the win. Adna Dumitrescu finished shortly afterwards, then Pair 102: Nadia and Karen officially brought events to a close for this year when they crossed the finish line at 18.20.

Yesterday, Alice Lake came in mid-afternoon, followed throughout the day and into the evening by Ross Maclean, Ruth Sutherland, Jacob Dobson, Simon Everett, James Milne, Maja Naumczyk, and Heiko Franz, who arrived in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

## Stats

Only 42% of starters made it back to Sheffield, and those that did took a lot longer than expected, meaning a sparsely attended finishers' party and lots of left over curry! We can put it down to the extra distance this year combined with some testing weather conditions that saw a lot of riders scratch after the first night.

It's interesting to compare the 'stopped time' of the top solo finisher with the first placed rookie:

That's a Wrap!

Mark Agar finished shortly after Katie in the early hours, then we had to wait until 8.50am to welcome home Rookie Ruth Gamwell - let's hope she didn't have work at 9! Nikki Ray followed, arriving just after 10am to claim the final womens' podium place.

Well done to all three riders who have had to soak up significantly more rain than the guys finishing early yesterday morning. Alice Lake is bearing down on the finish now, then we should see a flurry of finishers later on today.

Monday Morning

Katie 'Kookaburra' Butler finished around midnight last night to claim 2nd place woman at All Points North 2022. It will be a very satisfying finish for Katie as she had unfinished business with the race after scratching in 2019. She showed her audax experience by improvising some eye-catching marigolds to deal with the bleak conditions on the final stretch. 

Huge congratulations to Katie, who had the extra challenge of creating video content throughout the ride - we're looking forward to watching the full story of her race on YouTube soon!

Second Placed Woman Cleans Up

Nicky finished at 9.20pm Sunday to claim the women's title for 2022. The word on the street is she was very close to scratching, to the point that she started riding ominously towards Durham train station! Luckily she came to her senses and pushed on to take the win. Massive congratulations Nicky, what a ride!

Nicky Shaw Is First Woman

This year's edition of All Points North is proving to be significantly tougher than previous years. So much so that the organisers are worried there won't be enough riders at the finishers' party to get through all the curry!

When we look at the list above, one intersting aspect of the scratches this year is that there's a much higher percentage amongst the solo riders than the rookies. The rookies are tough cookies. 

It might just be a coincidence, but we think it might be that rookies are more determined to get to the end and less concerned with how quickly they finish. This would also lead them to take fewer risks, making ride-ending mistakes less likely. 

Scratch Fest

Jaimi Wilson came off her bike just south of Hawes this morning, and by the time she'd recovered enough to keep riding, she'd lost any lead she might have had over Nicki Shaw. Reports coming in suggest that Jaimi is fine and keen to continue but we're unsure at this stage whether her race is officially over or not.

That effectively hands the women's title to Nicky, as long as she dosn't have any dramas in the next few hours. She's just gone through the Hornsea checkpoint and starts the 120km flat run-in to the finish. This edition is so much tougher than previous ones that the first woman finisher might not make the finisher's meal!

Katie Butler is around 80km behind Nicki, and looks nailed on for 2nd place, with the same fast eastern approach to the finish. Nikki Ray is at the Semer Water CP, and still has Skyreholme and Nick O Pendle to go, so she's currently in 3rd place. Adna is at the furthest point from Sheffield at Bamburgh, so the finish line is still looking a long way away for her.

The Women's Race

The Heeley Institute in Sheffield hosts the All Points North finish line, and today it's a hive of activity as a dedicated team work around the clock in shifts to provide food, warmth, showers and endless cups of tea to the waterlogged finishers coming through the door.

The Follow My Challenge tracker is being televised on a big screen, there's music playing, finishers exchange stories from the road, and media crews frantically edit photos, jumping up every time a rider approaches the finish to get some shots. It's a heady combination of relief, exhaustion, and bacon sarnies.

At the Finish Line

With our podium filled, there was a dramatic race for 4th place between Rupert Robinson and Rob Webb. From our vantage point on the finish line, a small group gathered in eager anticipation of our fist sight of a rider at the bottom of the final climb - who would appear first?!

It was Rupert, teeth gritted in determination. Immediately after he rounded the corner into sight, Rob emerged behind him going full gas at the foot of the climb. We were treated to a dramatic flat-out sprint up the hill, and Rupert managed to hold off the challenger to claim 4th spot. Both riders were completely destroyed, this morning's heavy rain adding an extra level of adversity to the final stretch.

With Pawel taking first place at midnight, the race was on for second, with a genuine contest emerging between Bradley Woodruffe and Stuart Percival coming in from the same direction. Bradley just pipped him to the post, arriving at 9.15, completely soaked through and grinning like a mad man.

10 minutes later, Stuart crested the final climb up to the finish line to take the final podium spot, looking equally soaked and completely drained of all energy. Massive congratulations to our top 3 riders this year, chapeau!

APN 22 Podium

Pawel Pulawski arrived in Sheffield just after midnight on Saturday to win All Points North 2022 in 2 Days, 4 hours, 10 minutes. It's been a commanding performance from the Pole, with a combined total of 17 minutes of sleep giving him a lead of at least 8 hours over any of his closest rivals, who are all yet to finish.

As Pawel started to round up the final checkpoints on the east yesterday evening it became obvious how much faster that part of the course is, and how much time the 'clockwise' riders had already banked by tackling the Lake District first.

Huge congratulations to Pawel on what must feel like a particularly satisfying win after the dissapointment of losing out by such a close margin last year.
